HMM 25th Anniversary
The Hexham Morrismen celebrated their 25th anniversary on the weekend of 19th-21st July 2002. With their sister team the Hexhamshire Lasses they toured the area with many invited dance teams from around the country with whom they have made friends over the years.
There was a wide range of dance styles for audiences to enjoy with a whole array of different costumes, clogs, bells, sticks hankies garlands and swords. In excess of 100 dancers performed in and around Newcastle City Centre.
Dance spots included the Millennium Bridge and The Baltic Square on the Saturday morning and after lunch the teams danced as part of the Ouseburn Festival at the Cumberland Arms in Byker proceeding later to Greys Monument and Northumberland Street.
Teams returned to camp at Haydon Bridge High School for an evening meal followed by a grand ceilidh.
The band for the evening was Peeping Tom and caller Hugh Rippon.
Sunday lunchtime all teams took part in a dance spectacular in Hexham Market Place.
